I Built My Wife a Birthday Card with AI

My wife Carly's birthday was today. I wanted to do something that would blow her away, and prove to everyone watching that AI isn't just a buzzword. It's a real tool that lets one person build things that used to require an entire agency.

The idea: take the last year of her public Facebook posts, turn them into a data-driven infographic, wrap it in a beautiful interactive birthday card, and share it on her Facebook wall. Personal. Public. A portfolio piece and a love letter at the same time.

The Problem with Facebook Data

Facebook's anti-scraping is sophisticated. The Graph API no longer allows reading other users' posts. Third-party scrapers like Firecrawl hit login walls. CDN photo URLs are IP-signed and session-bound, they work in a browser but return empty responses from any server-side script. The DOM scrambles post text into individual characters to defeat parsers.

So I found a different way. I recorded a 13.5-minute screen recording of scrolling through her timeline, slowly, pausing on each post. Then I fed that video to an AI video analysis tool that read every post, date, caption, reaction count, and photo description frame by frame.

What the AI Extracted

From one screen recording, the AI pulled a full year of real moments: her 9th anniversary post and the exact quote she wrote about me ("Who knew one person could be my favorite travel buddy, business consultant and golf cart driver all in one?"), the Florida trip where Beckham lost his phone somewhere near the Golf America, the Russell Dickerson concert where RD himself replied in the comments, the Masching Memorial Golf Tournament, our business and life milestones, her sister's birthday tribute, and the legendary story of her driving a zero-turn mower across town to mow her mom's lawn when the part was on backorder.

Real data. Real moments. Zero homework for Carly.

The Build

I used Manus AI to build the card as a hosted React page: full-bleed hero with her real photo, confetti animation on load, a monthly activity bar chart, a life-balance radar chart built from her actual post themes, 8 moment cards with her real quotes, a word cloud of her most-used phrases, a Scooter's Coffee business section, and a handwritten love letter in Caveat font. The whole thing took about 4 hours from concept to published link.

Why This Matters Beyond the Birthday

This is the thing I keep trying to show people: AI doesn't replace creativity or relationships. It removes the friction between the idea and the execution. I had the idea at 5pm. By 11pm it was live, in between dinner an other activities for her birthday. That gap, between "I wish I could build that" and "it's done", is what AI closes.

The same workflow applies to real business problems. Customer year-in-review pages. Personalized onboarding experiences. Data-driven reports that used to take a team a week. If you're an operator sitting on data and wishing you could do something meaningful with it, this is the proof of concept.
